Toolkit: how to communicate your decarbonisation journey
Use this toolkit to access the exclusive advice, guidance and good practice the CBI has developed with members to support your business.

The case for business
In the run up to COP 27, businesses will be looking to tell their story as to what they have delivered in the year following COP 26. To understand how to best communicate your decarbonisation journey and focus on sharing both, the ambition and what has been delivered, the CBI has pulled together a range of best practice, advice, and guidance to support you.

PRACTICAL TIPS
Investment Association
Understand what you need to be doing to secure funding from investors – read the Investment Association’s (‘the IA’) tips:
SMEs should not be looking to do anything materially different to larger companies. This is especially the case if SMEs have future plans to expand through IPOs or (if they’re already listed) issuing more shares. Thus, SMEs should base their climate reporting around the four pillars of TCFD.
The IA’s Institutional Voting Information Service publishes guidance on what shareholders expect of companies on TCFD. Essentially, investors might not be looking so much for sustainability “credentials” so much as to be reassured that companies will make accurate and reliable sustainability disclosures.
Looking beyond climate reporting, SASB industry standards is also a useful tool for companies to understand the sustainability issues that investors are looking at for the sector they are in.

Schneider Electric
Both globally and locally, in UK and Ireland, we train our employees on our sustainability strategy and how we work towards our goals. We want to ensure that our employees can talk confidently abound sustainability as well as Schneider’s goals and contribution towards the road to net zero.
Beyond our mandatory training, we have also launched a Sustainability School with further education on deeper aspects of sustainability and decarbonisation.
In UK and Ireland, we have set up a Carbon Fund for employees to submit sustainability ideas. The best ideas get funded and implemented. This is an engaging way to include all employees in the journey. We also have a ‘sustainability moment’ of the month to keep employees up to date and encourage them to be advocates for a sustainable world.
CEMEX
CEMEX is committed to achieving carbon neutrality through relentless innovation and industry-leading research and development, which is brought to life across its global operations through a dedicated ‘Future In Action’ Climate Action strategic plan.
Recognizing that global climate action goals require stronger efforts, and ensuring sustainability is at the core of everything we do, we created Future in Action, to focus our entire organisation around a programme to develop low carbon products, solutions, and processes to become a net-zero CO2 company.
The objective is clearly communicated to everyone throughout the business regularly through internal communication updates and everyone plays a role in achieving carbon neutrality.
In order to reach our goals, we have set aggressive decarbonisation goals with a very specific roadmap to achieve them and working with external partners to validate and endorse our commitments.
Our ultimate goal is to deliver only net-zero CO2 concrete by 2050.
