First, some advance notice; tickets to our always popular CBI Business Dinner - Greater Birminghamare now on sale. Regular attendees will vouch for this being a ‘must attend’ event. I hope you’ll be able to join myself and CBI President, John Allan, in Birmingham on 12 November.
Please take advantage of this early notification as the event is also open to non-members, always sells out and I would not wish you to miss out.
Interested in local devolution? Join the new Devolution Monitoring Group
The CBI West Midlands has significantly stepped up its regional policy work over the past 12 months or so. The West Midlands Industrial strategy was successfully launched a couple of months ago and devolution across England continues to grow both in pace and scope of development.
As a result, we will be establishing a region wide devolution monitoring group. This will build upon the good work undertaken since October by three regional council sub-committees (skills, housing, infrastructure). Still very much in the early stages, but members should register their interest with Mark Corbett to get involved.
Become WM Regional Councillor
Regional council elections take place in October, and I anticipate approximately 20 places will be up for election. Over the summer, please consider if the role could be right for you or a colleague.
As the CBI is driving the diversity agenda (both gender and BAME) very strongly across the board, I would ask you to help support this by seeking out high calibre individuals who both represent your business and help meet this diversity objective.

Get Involved
The CBI policy teams have many initiatives underway that members will want to influence, you’ll find them all listed on My CBI, but can I please draw your attention to these two...
Addressing regional imbalances in the UK economy
We're responding to the Treasury Select Committee inquiry on the nature of regional imbalances in economic growth and the use of regional economic data and forecasts. Can you help inform the debate? What are the most significant regional imbalances in the UK?
Has your business changed its people practices in order to boost productivity?
Yes? Please share your story to help the CBI promote peer-learning among the business community and at CBI events. You will also help inform the government’s work on the industrial strategy. Get involved
