Specifically, the SteerCo will help the CBI to:
- Determine what, from a business perspective, we mean by Levelling Up
- Find out how to get business leaders engaged in economic placemaking and bring private sector leadership to bear on Levelling Up
- Draw on insights and experience to attracting high value sectors, firms, and jobs to a place.
- Provide strategic leadership deliver the CBI’s Seize the Moment ambitions, working closely with CBI members and Regional Councils.
The Inaugural meeting
The steerco met for the first time on 3 March 2022. The CBI presented thoughts and ideas on what makes places thrive, and the committee discussed how we can better engage with business in this process.
The Committee was joined by Andy Haldane who sits as an adviser to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and head of the Levelling Up Taskforce within the Cabinet Office. Andy was a key author of the Levelling Up White Paper and has been a long-time advocate of the role of the private sector within the Levelling Up debate.
Find out more about Thriving Regions
Starting at the end of March, we’ll be hosting a series of CBI@10 webinars with our SteerCo members focusing on how bsuiness can help shape place.
Further to the Thriving Regions SteerCo, we’ll be hosting private roadtables with business, stakeholders and partners to identify success and failure in business-led growth across UK regions. These roundtables will help shape our clusters playbook (published later this year). As part of this playbook, businesses will be invited to our cluster’s community – a space to gain insight, share learnings and support cluster development.
If you operate in an existing cluster within the UK, or a sector that you believe has cluster potential, we would like to hear from you to discuss the successes, challenges, and potential opportunities of your sector.
