What the CBI’s Budget submission means for people and skills

Next month will see the Chancellor unveil his first Budget in over a year. With people and skills issues featuring prominently in December’s election campaign, now is the time for the government to deliver on their promises.

This Budget comes at a crucial time. As we look ahead to the next decade, it is clear the workforce is changing. Virtually every job will be impacted by this change – some radically, some incrementally. Research by the CBI suggests that, by 2030, one in six workers will go through a radical job change, and nine in ten workers will need more training. Yet, with more than half of workers on the lowest incomes having had no training since they left school, this is not going to be an easy task.
