Business Rates Policy Sprint – Meeting 1
This is the first meeting of the CBI’s Business Rates Reform Project. We want to shift the dial on the business rates conversation and present the next government with a clear path forward for modernising the system and making it fairer.
The cost of inaction is high. With one of the highest property tax levels in the OECD, a 2023 revaluation which saw a 7.3% increase in the total rateable value for properties in England and the 2023 Autumn Statement announcing a further 6.7% increase in bills, UK business property tax costs are uncompetitive.
The CBI will use its convening power to bring together businesses from across the economy and support proposals with our economic capability to ensure they are costed and credible. This meeting will be the first in a series between now and the summer.
